Day 1 - Kings Canyon
I'll just type a little from our itinerary: Kick off your adventure with a drive through James and Waterhouse Ranges and the ancient Hugh and Finke river systems on the way to Kings Canyon. There's a bit of exploring to do here: the monumental North and South walls, the Amphitheatre, the Lost City, and the lush, inviting Garden of Eden. Our guide James (Jimbo) wanted to try doing the hike in the opposite direction than he normally does. So we started a steep ascent on Kings Canyon and after walking for 30 minutes, we got blocked. Apparently a woman had fallen off one of the cliffs, well more like a ledge and had broken her leg. The rangers had blocked the path because they had to wait for a helicopter to airlift her out. Apparently she was quite a large woman and we were told there wasn't enough rangers to carry her out, nor did they want to risk injuring themselves by moving her! We also got scolded for doing the hike backwards, so we had to walk back the 30 minutes and go back the other direction. All in all we walked over 3 hours around Kings Canyon.
