Agra First Day--Fatehpur Sikri
We left Jaipur at 6am and arrived in Agra early in the afternoon. We rested for a bit and then Noopur's aunt, uncle and cousin took us to Fatehpur Sikri. It is 40km west of the city and was the short lived capital of the Mughal empire (1571-1585) during the reign of Emperor Akban. Our guide told us some ridiculous stories about Akban. He apparently had 300 concubines. In the courtyard outside there are different colored squares in the pavement creating a huge indian chess board. He would have his lady friends dress in brightly colored clothes and use them as the chess pieces. The women weren't allowed to leave the walls of the city, so every monday there was an area where a market would come to them so they could shop. He also liked playing hide and seek with them. Akban would use elephants to kill people that committed crimes. They would be smashed under the animal's foot. In the 3rd set of pictures there is a tower. This is where the elephant is buried. Poor killer elephanteeeee.
