Final Day in Delhi, October 15

Our first stop was Jama Masjid. It's the largest mosque in India. We had to have our heads covered and we had to take our shoes off. First Noopur, Katie and I wanted to climb the south minaret b/c it's supposed to have an amazing view of Delhi. The ticket office was charging us 500 rupees to go. Noopur and I decided we didn't want to spend the money, but Katie still wanted to go. She came back saying that unaccompanied women were not allowed to climb the tower. I then saw a couple approaching the ticket office. They only spoke catalana, but we were able to explain the situation to them and how we have to have a man with us to climb the tower. They understood and said we could come with them. With a man in our group, our ticket price became 50 rupees. The tower was so narrow and they weren't regulating the number of people climbing to the top. So imaging climbing up a narrow, circular, dark stairwell being pressed up against the wall b/c people are squeezing to get back down, while you try to get up. At the top there are just swarms of people climbing over one another in a space the size of 2 king beds. The picture of the black gate/fence is what i was clinging to b/c there was no where to stand but on a little ledge. We stayed there for less than a minute and then headed back down.
